Public Speaking

Patrick Gordon, of Rockmill Webspinners, is available within West Yorkshire to give a presentation to your group or business.

Patrick has delivered talks on many subjects including CSS, 'Making the most of your business broadband' and 'Firefox Add-ons'. Currently, the most popular talks are on Google.

Google Part 1
This talk is all about how to make your searches more efficient; to find what you are looking for quicker. From the basics of how the Google results page is laid out (and the many variations), to how results display information form your website. Patrick talks the audience through how to check that their web designer has done a good job.

Style:
This presentation is done without PowerPoint. It is given using demonstrations of live information over the Internet. Patrick encourages the audience to ask questions during the presentation to avoid misunderstandings and to make the presentation as relevant to that audience as possible. Patrick's general style is informal and everything is described in English with no (or very little) technical speak. Humour is also very important as it breaks the intensity of the presentation and the wealth of information being passed on.

Length:
This presentation lasts for about an hour depending on how many questions are asked.

Typical areas covered:

  • Explanation of Google's results page
  • How to use 'extra' search features to improve your searches
  • Searching within images, films, books, music, definitions and maps
  • Checking if your site is listed in Google
  • How to submit your site to Google in 1 minute
  • Finding out how many other sites ink to yours
  • Google ranking
  • Google calculator

Requirements:
For this presentation, a projector and screen are required. If an Internet connection is available, then this makes the talk much more interactive as questions from the audience can be answered with a immediate demonstration. However, it is possible for this talk to be delivered without a Internet connection.

Given to:
Business groups in Wakefield, Huddersfield, Halifax and Bradford. Patrick is also booked to give this presentation in Leeds in June 2008.

If you would like to book Patrick to talk at your business meeting, then call him on 01422 881643.
